Wanapum Priest Rapids Summer Chinook- Open Seat?

Is anyone fishing below Wanapum on July 1st or 2nd. Im in Desert Aire and would like to fish there but my boat is not set up too good for fishing in the "bowl" right below the dam.

If you have an open seat and would like some help with expenses, let me know. I have all my own gear.

- If you don't have a boat and are brave I could be talked into putting my boat in at the dam. It's a 20' Fiberglass boat set up with downriggers. It can be a bit tricky if the wind is up and I've never fished it below Wanapum with the downriggers.

Welcome back, Mark! Steelhead season was great, springer season was okay but only because I chased them all the way down to Longview, Portland, Bonneville, and Drano. I never caught any at McNary but scored a couple of jacks on the Umey right before Memorial Day. Now I'm just waiting until July 1 and planning to chase a few summers.

Walleye fishing has been good lately though!

Was out today. Wasn't red hot but there were just enough shad to keep it interesting. Picked up 21 in just under 3 hours.

Summer brings fishing opportunities for Salmon off coast

With summer fast approaching, millions of Washingtonians are looking forward to another season of fun in the sun. And for those who like to fish, that means angling for salmon off the coast, crabbing in Puget Sound and a variety of other new fishing opportunities around the state.

"Every fishery has its season, and some of our most popular fisheries take place during the summer months," said Jim Scott, assistant director of the Fish Program at the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW). "For many anglers, the warm weather is just a bonus."

Here is a sampling of some of the new fishing opportunities opening around the state in the next few weeks:

June 16: The Columbia River opens to retention of hatchery steelhead, hatchery jack salmon and sockeye salmon from the Interstate 5 Bridge upstream to the Highway 395 Bridge in Pasco. (See the Southwest Washington regional report below for additional information on the steelhead opening.)
June 18: Crab fishing opens in the western Strait of Juan de Fuca and southern Puget Sound seven days per week.
June 27: Salmon fishing begins along the north coast out of Neah Bay and La Push.
June 28: The south coast opens to salmon fishing out of Ilwaco and Westport.
July 1: Six additional areas of Puget Sound, ranging from the eastern Strait of Juan de Fuca to waters off Seattle and Tacoma, open to crab fishing on a Wednesday-through-Saturday schedule. Also starting July 1, anglers can catch and retain their limit of salmon in waters around Seattle and the San Juan Islands, as well as in Hood Canal and the eastern Strait of Juan de Fuca. The Columbia River also opens for retention of summer chinook that day.
Meanwhile in eastern Washington, stream flows are beginning to settle out, resulting in better fishing for spring chinook salmon on the Yakima River and improved catch-and-release trout fisheries on the Methow and its tributaries. In addition, alpine lakes are thawing, making them both reachable and fishable. Plus, rising temperatures are improving the bite by smallmouth bass and other warmwater species on the Columbia and Snake rivers and several eastside lakes.

For more information on these and other fisheries around the state, see the regional reports below. For detailed fishing regulations for state waters, see the Fishing in Washington rules pamphlet, available online ( http://wdfw.wa.gov/fish/regs/fishregs.htm ).

E-Mann,

It has been some time since we have had much action in the forums. Welcome back. My Steelhead season was less than productive this year. I am having a good trout season so far.

No action on the end of my rod.

Springer season

Boy -- it's been awhile since I've posted any reports. For awhile, it was because I wasn't fishing much (definately not catching much -- I had a rough steelhead season this past winter) but lately I just haven't spent much time here.

I thought I was going to miss springer season - I had a buddy get married in Belgium and needed a best-man so I was gone May 4 - 12. (I let him know he killed my spring chinook season...) But with the late run and the exceeded quota down below it looks like I didn't miss much. Luckily, I made a couple trips after I got back and picked up a couple jacks in a couple trips; one at Ringlold and one on the Umatilla, both drifting eggs.

How'd everybody else fare? Anybody still catching anything on the Icicle or down on the Wind or Drano? Anybody have a method for the summers?
