I hit the reach on the 19th and didn't do too bad, well as far as fishing goes. Did terrible as far as catching goes. We went 1 for 3 losing 2 to line breakage. 1, 13 pound buck in the box tho. We back trolled herring off downriggers for the fish and 1 diver with K15 kwickfish that never got touched all day. We fished the B/C and King holes. Planning to make a weekend of it by dragging the motorhome down Thursday night the 25th. Should see an increase in the number of fish in the area.

Way to go Elk! Were you using flashers with the herring or just bare? Care to share how far off the bottom you were running them?

We hit Vernita for a few hours Saturday morning and all day today (Sunday). Saturday was a fairly decent bite for us with 2 in the box for 3 hookups, one absolute hawg (42# 12 oz) for my buddy on a Christine K16 on the downrigger (down 20' in 30') and the other on a Brad's Superbait at 40' in 50'. The one we lost was on a downrigged kwik.

It was super slow today with only one fish. Luckily my son managed to land a 29# 10oz. hen that gave an awesome battle including some aerobatics. It hit a dill pickle K15x on the downrigger.

You guys suck! No, wait, that's me. I suck. I never catch squat!

Don, I'm not familiar with the "Christine" pattern. What color is that?

Am also curious as to how you guys fish herring. I fished helmeted green label tonite and got nary a drive-by.

Star,

I always fish the herring bare. We keep the herring within 10 feet of the bottom, but run the risk of hanging the herring up tho. The first fish Friday was at B/C. The drift prior to the fish drift I hung up my herring and did not check my hooks prior to rebaiting and starting the next drift. The leadr broke on the fish in between the two hooks on the mooching setup. Lesson to all "CHECK YOUR GEAR". Must have got a nick in the leader on the rocks.

Elk,

Are you drifting or backtrolling?

AS, the Christine is a white plug with fluorescent green dots and a cerise butt. It's been hot the last few years but the only place you can get it is Pollywog's in Desert Aire. It's a custom plug conceived by Christine who runs the place. Stop in, she and Adam are super nice folks. You can also weigh in fish for our weekly prizes in the salmon derby there.

So far our hot plugs for the year, in order of success, are Christine, Ghost, and Mad Clown. We've had a fish on bare plug cut herring (and a bunch of missed hits) and one on a red/gold Brad's Superbait.

The wife and I fished Saturday morning and she had some Karma stored from springer season where she lost all the fish she had on. She took one in the king hole on a silver/chartreuse K15 and then we headed downstream and with the help of a tip from Starfish she picked up another on a pink/pearl K15. They measured 13 and 18 lbs--all the fish I've seen taken lately have that nice platinum look to them. My rod got no love from the fish, but watching the Mrs tangle with hers more than made up for it.
