Finally got out. Above Wanapum the levels were about normal high. Water seemed pretty cold. Started about 8:30 or so. Didn't see any fish of any kind. Little after 9 I thought I felt a bite. It was more like my jig was in mud.... but it was a fish. Fought about like one would expect for cold water. 14" and it didn't have near enough heat to even try a jump. Fished same bay for another hour without a bump. As I was leaving a pair of guys showed up with pontoons. Went below Wananpum and the river level was the highest I have ever seen with dam releases roaring. Coludn't even get to some of my old fav. spots. Drove around to do some look & see recon. Went back to first place and there were two pontooners and a boat with a bank guy now. As I walked by the boat got into something... I actually got the best look and I thought it was a 26"+ Walleye? He got it to the boat and it came unbuttoned but he had never caught a Walleye and wasn't sure what it was? Later he got one 8" bass. A bass boat pulled in too. Nobody else got a thing. I managed one more at about 13" and it had a little spunk to it. It looked like everyone was fishing to fast of a retrieve to me. I was using a curly jig on the bottom. Let it sit... drag it as slow as possible a little and let it sit.

Usually by now there is little better action. Maybe it was just the day or the heavy flows of runoff have held the temps down below the last couple years for this date? Might have to try the lakes and give the river a another month to warm up...
