Hey Everyone sorry I haven't been to the sight in awhile, you all no how work can throw a damper on the outdoors life. I am really excited about my recent fishing trips.

I recently took a couple of trips out to the local lakes in my area. The fishing was fantastic, for us that was. I felt awful bad for all of the people sitting on the banks around me. My brother and I have been developing a new fishing bait that has been very successful for us. So successful in fact that I would say in all honesty there was about 20 other people fishing around us and we watched a total of 3 fish landed by everyone else, while we both caught are limits and switched to catch and release.

We wanted to test out if it was just are spot or if in fact are new bait was the reason. So we went around and gave samples to everyone on the shore and sure enough in about 20 minutes everyone around us was catching fish and wanted to know where they could buy some of the bait we were using. We told them they wouldn't be able to find it that we made it up. This same thing happened on both of my trips so far to the lake this year and countless times of going to the lake last year.

We are quite sure at this point that we have something here with our new bait. I was wondering if anyone could tell me how I would go about getting a patent on are new bait so that we could possibly market it and get it out to everybody to use..

LOL. For some reason, an episode of King of the Hill came to mind. He was putting a "special" bait on the hook. Tuirns out it was crack cocaine.

Ok.. enough about that. Congratulations on your trip. It sounds like you had a fantastic time. It is always fun when the fish are biting your hook like they were.

Most Universities have a patent office. I seriously doubt they will assist you with the patent, unless you're a student, but they might be able to direct you to an outside resource. I see you're in Spokane; you may want to try EWU. Another resource is Mr. Dick Nite, a member here at Fisingnw, and inventor of at least a few well known fishing lures. He may have some helpful advice if you send him a PM.

Good Luck,

E-mann

RAE, a patent is a very good idea for your product. To do it right, you really should hire a patent attorney. You can allegedly do it yourself with self-help kits you can order, but I believe that's a recipe for disaster and strongly recommend that you spend the bucks to have a lawyer help you. I'd offer my services, but I don't do patent work.

The bad news is that patent attorneys are quite expensive. You're likely looking at spending a few thousand bucks. Of course, if you product is as good as you claim, it will make you much more than that and having a properly done patent will save you much, much more than the original costs.

Good luck and let me know if I can help. Oh, and bring me some of that bait!

Dan

For a start you can find out if someone has already patented your exact concoction. Patents can be searched at the US Patent Office website.
