I am planning a King Salmon Fishing Trip sometime in June or July. I need some information on the Kenai River or somewhere in British Columbia for this trip. I have not yet selected a guide or transportation. This will be a once in a lifetime type trip with the people I am planning with so I want to make it memorable.

If anyone has any information about these areas, please post away. If you are a guide in these area's, please contact me. We are seeking boarding and transportation as well.

Never been to Kenai and only to the Vedder in BC. Best trip I have taken to Alaska was to Yakutat in late May/early June. At that time the steelhead are still in the Situk river ,the kings are just showing in the bay, and halibut are going full swing, I caught a 110lb 'but on that trip as well as 3 others. We stayed at Leonards Landing lodge and fished with Ross's charters. If you need any other info get ahold of me

glock,
This is Kent Anderson, I spent 9 years ('95-03) guiding on the Kenai. I now run a King salmon camp on the Nushagak River in SW Alaska. I can tell you quite a bit about the two fisheries. The Kenai is a dynamite fishery if you go in with the right attitude. The Kenai produces "Trophy" Kings but it is not a fishery that will provide steady action. It is also not a "remote Alaska" fishing experience. I would highly recommend fishing the Kenai for the opportunity of catching a trophy King. Patience is a key, I averaged 2-3 Kings/trip (w/4 rods) with the exception of the peak times in mid-July.
The Nushagak is a more remote trip with very steady action all day for Kings. They do not come close to comparing in size to the Kenai, but the typical fish is 20-25 lbs. Average day last year was 12-15 kings/rod, with a couple days nearing 100 fish for the boat. The biggest disadvatage is the inaccesability of the Nush (no roads) but that is an advantage for those of us operating river camps.
I 'd be happy to tell you a lot more about the different fisheries if you want to give me a calll. You can access my website at www.andersonsoutdoors.com which will provide my contact information. That site still has Kenai information but my Nushagak camp site is www.NushSalmonCamp.com
If you are still thinking about going to the Kenai I'd be happy to recommend some excellent guides that will definitely increase your chances at a Trophy King, if you are wanting incredible King salmon fishing in a remote setting, think about the Nushagak.

Hello Glock
Greetings from Kenai, Alaska.
If your plans are for July, be sure to book soon as most all our trips during that prime time are filling fast. You can contact Gary Kernan at Alaska FishOn Guide Service and he may have some openings. Gary just bought another boat to add seats during this time and is just starting the booking process for this boat on the Kenai River.
If you need any additional assistance, contact me through our new fishing site at Alaska Fishing or at the forum on Alaska Outdoor Forum
