Well, this is my first post on this site. I am super excited about it. Anyway, went to the WW yesterday for my first day of Steelheading on the Eastern side of the mtns. I have been on two Salmon trips to the Skagit/Samish, but yesterday was my first WW trip. Went to the RR tressel. Was out there for about 20 minutes, and got hung up and had to break it off. After this, i realized that in my hurried excitement, I grabbed my rod that had about 30 feet of line on it. After the break off, it had about 5. What a way to start the year!! Had to leave after half an hour.....oh well. Theres always next time!

Anybody else had any success yet?

Bummer. The fish only trickle in under these low-water conditions. Until we get some rain, cover lots of water because it will be only one or two fish in each little pocket and slot. There may be a couple of holes that will be holding multiple fish stuck from low water, but if they don't bite fairly quickly, you're much better off finding fish that will. I've had some luck in the Nine canyon section of the river this time of year. Good luck.

If you are fishing the nine mile area, where do you park at? Right off of the highway?

When you're heading east on Hwy 12, turn right just after the hwy crosses the WW--I think it's Byrne Rd. That will follow the river for a few miles. Park and fish just about anywhere it's wide enough and not explicitly posted; it's all public access (at least the last time I fished it...)

Good luck

No fish in that river. LOL...

Someday I will get out there again. I haven't fished it yet and I LIVE 2 minutes from the bank...sad, sad, sad.

Good luck, they should be in there in small numbers now.

Good luck!

The added water has pushed some fish upstream! Wiggle Warts and Blue Fox Spinners are currently workign well!

Fish on...

The Walla Walla River has cleared up and appears to be in good shape as of today.

Any particular color of Wiggle Warts?

I usually try to dead drift a steelhead jig under a float but I haven't had any luck on the Walla Walla.

Has anyone tried Kast Masters on steelhead?

I like metallic pink on the WW. I also have had luck on purple/black jigs with coon shrimp.

No experience with kastmasters but I would expect they would work along with other spoons.

Looks like we are going to have to wait a while to fish the WW. As of 9:33pm Jan. 1st the NOAA Weather service has reported flooding on Mill Creek and the WW basin may see up to 1 inch of rain tonight. Too bad... I had some vacation comming up. Sad

When it comes back into shape I plan to deploy the old realiable: Drifting night crawlers w/ a pink corky.

It looks like the Walla Walla River should start to recede this afternoon.

The river is finally clearing up especially upstream of the Tochet river. I had a good day fishing yesterday.
