I have caught one on my fly rod this year! Makes me want to try for more since it was first ever steelhead on a fly. I caught it on black wolly bugger with a red yarn tale.

I have heard rumor that we are getting some great custom tied steelhead flies, but not sure...... I sure wish I could get some confirmation on this. Hmmmmm....

Well, I hope that you are not thinking I am coming up with them lol! Although I did tie the one I caught my steelhead on, but I tied in one of the columbia basin flycasters free classes!

A dude glock and I know (i.e. Me) is probably going to tie up a few marabou speys (they are tried and tested...successfully).
Glock if you find those sink tips I mentioned, you could list a few fer sale and I can also do an article on making the loops, and using the resulting heads for steelhead. Which ones, where and such.

The Wenatchee will open for Steelheading on Oct. 22! See the WDFW press release section. I'm sure I'll go toss a few flies there this fall/winter. It may not be open for long, however, according to a fish and game guy I talked to.

Once they have confirmed something like 25 wild fish "potentially killed" the fishery will close. This is based on hook mortality rates and the numbers of wild fish reported hooked and released.
In any even it should be fun (and a zoo).
As a matter of perspective, more fish passed over Lower Granit in one day than have passed into the upper columbia tribs all year. Wenatchee has a few more (1-2 days of LG passage). Still small #'s.
I'll be on the Grand Ronde next week and I'll let you know what I find. I am very hopeful...
