Well the Samish opened up as usual...dead...Should hope to see some early Kings by mid July early August...everybody get thier jigs ready..Ukulet is jumping with silvers so the run is looking good... The pink run on the skagit has been closed, but the Skykomish looks like it will have a state record year on Pink numbers.. The stilli is looking good for silvers this year after last years bummer year.. The Nooksack looks good for kings and silvers this year....it's still a better river to drift than slog the banks ..Eggs still being the favorite I havent seen the projected numbers yet on the rivers but they are in good shape so far. We will see how long that lasts depending on rain. I will keep an active post as soon as the kings hit the Samish and hopefully we will have the 20# average size like last year

Lake Washington sockeye catch largest in a decade
Posted by glock on Tuesday, September 12, 2006 (06:17:03) (8400 reads)
OLYMPIA – This summer’s estimated catch of 59,000 Lake Washington sockeye salmon was the largest sport harvest on the lake since 1996.
“It was a good year for Lake Washington sockeye,” said Tim Flint, salmon resource manager for the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW). “The abundant return of sockeye drew large crowds to the lake and, overall, anglers were pretty successful.”
This year’s Lake Washington sockeye run was estimated at 472,000 salmon. That’s well above the 350,000 fish needed for spawning escapement, leaving a surplus of 122,000 sockeye available for harvest. The surplus – minus about 2,000 salmon for test fisheries – was split between sport anglers and tribal fishers.
Sport anglers made about 63,800 trips on the lake and averaged just below one sockeye (.93) per rod this year. The fishery was open for a total of 18 days – the most days of fishing since 1996, when sport anglers caught about 70,000 sockeye during 23 days of fishing.
The strong return of sockeye stemmed from a combination of good ocean conditions and salmon produced at a temporary hatchery facility on the Cedar River, said Lew Atkins, assistant director for WDFW’s fish program.
“This fishery provides anglers a unique opportunity to catch sockeye salmon in the middle of an urban area,” Atkins said. “And with thousands of anglers participating in the fishery, there’s no doubt it provides a boost to the local economy.”
With the purchase of gear, fuel and other angler essentials, coupled with the ripple effect of those out-of-pocket expenses, WDFW estimates this year’s Lake Washington sockeye fishery provided about $8.6 million in economic benefits to the area.

How to Catch Salmon - Marine Areas
Posted by glock on Sunday, August 20, 2006 (20:59:24) (13218 reads)
Trolling
The most popular boat fishing methods can be lumped into two general categories, drift fishing and trolling. Drift fishing generally means fishing without a motor. Trolling consists of fishing out of a constantly moving boat. Trollers will use weights, divers, or downriggers to achieve a desired depth to present their bait or lures. Trolling is more effective than drift fishing when salmon are spread out over a large area. Trolling with a downrigger is probably the most popular method of salmon fishing in saltwater in Washington.
Trolling
Motor Mooching
Motor mooching is trolling with the same banana shaped weight and cut plug herring used by drift moochers (Photo 1). Most anglers fishing this way troll slowly with a plug-cut herring (Photo 2), although a few anglers will substitute a small spoon for the herring. Some anglers alternately put their motor into and out of gear to change depth and speed, and impart a different action to the bait. This is the simplest form of trolling and is cherished by folks that want to minimize the amount of gear needed and enjoy each fish caught.
