Sturgeon Fishing

General Fishing Started out the morning on the Willamette river launching from cathedral park. the weather was trying to cooperate but, the rain gods won out most the day(see photo album for some pics). Cathedral park was a easy launch at 8:00 am as me and my fishing partner Sean headed out.
The Willamette river was calm and not to crowded as we worked our way to wards Kelly Point where the Willamette feeds into the mighty Columbia. First stop by the power lines and the wind started to pick up the current was not enough to keep us straight and the bites where non existent so, we pulled anchor and moved down closer to the mouth. Sean is a novice fisherman, but is learning fast had to take a pic of one of the little sturgeon we caught. he manage to boat 4 or 4 shakers between 24 and 36 inch's, I was able to boat up a dozen nothing smaller than the one pictured here and nothing larger than a 38. We moved back up the river to wards the St. Johns bridge and just north or cathedral park, My goodness there was 15 boats parked there, We still had a hour left to fish on our 1/2 day out without the wifes so, we anchored up and fished with a 3 or 4 bites boating 2 more shakers.
All in all it was a nice morning the bite was picking up best after 10 am but we had to leave 1 pm wish I could have stayed.

Note: Those fishing the sturgeon derby over the next 2 weekends I wish you the best of luck and so far the Willy and multnomah channel seem to be the best bets for keepers.
I hope to get out to the Columbia Gorge over the next week I will post a update when i go, till then keep the lines tight.
