Hit the Tuc on Tuesday and Wednesday............... No action what so ever. Didn't even see anything.......... Frustrating once again, but such is the life of Steelheading.

Seems to have been alot of foot traffic in the Powers road area, but I have just not had any luck since the 23 incher I caught Last Thursday. I'm assuming I'm still a little early in the season and am fighting the few remaining salmon pushing through the river.

Are the fish even really in the River yet? Or is it too early? Or are they just hiding right now?

Okay, I just read the "fishing pressure section." I agree with most of you as I hold the Tuc near and dear to my heart and I feel like there are some parts of the river that are "mine." I know this isnt the case and nor do I want to give up my "secrets," but I do wish to gain knowledge of this river's steelhead.

I have fished the river for nearly 15 years now and I am only 25. I pride myself on this type of fishing. The hiking, bushwacking, relentless movement and skill that I consider a rarity. This style of fishing makes your one catch in 4 trips worth more than the biggest you caught out of the 10 for the day. The Tuc is a gem to me, I love it with all my heart and will always fight to keep this fishery alive and well!

So on that note, I am not looking to give away the river or places on it, but more to share something I love with all my heart........

I'm off my soap box.

I have been reading this thread and biting my tongue. I know there are half a dozen members who would love to reply to this thread. I am only willing to give up the mouth of the Tucannon River as a spot for fish.. Let the boats play bumper cars.

I have a firm believer that finding quality water on the Tucannon River is most of the fun. It should be even more fun now that it is open to the area just below the hatchery. In the past, it hasn't been open that high up.

I'll chime in now. I spent a number of days (somewhere around 10 or so)on the Tucannon last year. It was my first real season of fishing for steelhead. I spent hour after hour hiking and looking for water. I came to this conclusion. There is no magic place. Everytime I went there I caught fish in new water, and often times caught zilch out of a place I caught fish in before. So my best advice is......if you are not catching fish move on. Keep hiking until you catch one. I rarely "saw" fish before I caught them. That only happened once.........on my last trip out last year, and that was the coolest thing to see the fish take my bait!

I'm gonna fish one more weekend of Salmon on the Yakima, and then it is time for the Walla Walla and Tucannon for me!

I am thinking of starting a new website... www.nofishcaught.com

I made a trip to the Tucannon and the Snake River today. I had an opportunity to take my wife fishing for a while. We came up empty with the exception of a sucker near the Fish Hatchery at Lions Ferry.

The Tucannon was running crystal clear. You could actually see your lure or bait float by in as deep as 8' water.

I was there Tuesday and Wednesday, lower river one day, upper river the next. Without giving away my insight, I got skunked one day, but had a great day the other....... 3 steels in one day!

I can attest, the water is super clear and up about 3-6 inches in the last few weeks. The water is colder and the fish are moving!

All I can say as the fish are in the river from the bottom all the way to the top............already! Must be an early crop this year!

Scottlake:

Thanks for the info--good job on the fish. After our recent flurry of posts regarding fishing pressure and the delicate nature of this river, I encourage the Fishingnw regulars to utilize the private meassage function in order to extract tid bits from our scout-on-the-water. This may encourage lurkers to take the jump, register, and start pitching in to our community rather than "spying" on our secrets. Eh?

Once again, good job, and thanks,

Scottlake and E-Mann,

The reason this website was put in place was to provide a free fishing resource to anglers in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. It was my idea that we should all share techniques and ideas with others. Many of the threads are leading in the direction of giving up the secret spot, rather than the "how to". I do believe this causes extra pressure on the rivers.

With that being said, I have developed a way for our regular members to discuss things amongst ourselves without involving those who don't participate on the web site. Although I haven't established a criteria for membership, I have developed a "membership" area. The cost for membership is active participation in the regular forums.

To join, simply log-in using your normal user-name and password. On the menu at left, you will see an option for membership. Join the Pro Shop. This isn't automatic and you will need to be approved. Once you are approved, you will see a new forum called Members Lounge. This area is sheltered from the general public. Non-Members may be able to view the topic but will be unable to view the thread.

That's a good idea. Sounds like a good way to add another level of information and exchage to the community you've created.

Thanks,
