Hello All,

Just wondering what is going on in the Steelhead/Salmon world. Any ideas where someone with a fishing pole and a little spare time might run off to and find some success. I can't wait for the Grande Ronde and the Tucannon to get going this year those are the closest place for me to go as I live in Spokane. If anyone knows a place closer to me please let me know. I know the summer Salmon run is on it's way I hope it is a great year. Hoping to hear from you all, it's been a great summer!!!!!!!!!

I am waiting for the Salmon to come up the Columbia to the Yakima River.
Because of fire danger, the Forest Service today closed all Umatilla National Forest lands north of the Washington state border as well as a portion of the Wenaha-Tucannon Wilderness in Oregon.

It will be interesting to see what the impact of this fire has on the fish.

Take a look at the following link.

Don't forget the Hanford Reach for fall chinook and the Snake River for steelhead. Both are intimidating to fish from the bank, but I read all the time that the fish tend to hold and travel near the shore. Isn't it funny to watch how the bankies cast as far out into the channel as they can while the boats are always working near the shore? I have a hard time fishing the big rivers with confidence, but the few times I have spent a whole day working at it I have caught fish. I've also heard of folks picking up a few steelhead at the mouth of the Palouse river this time of year. As the nights begin to cool, the Palouse will cool more quickly than the mainstem of the Snake so fish passing by will stall momentarily in the cool water at the mouth. If you're willing to plunk down the money for an ID license, the Clearwater should be an great prospect this time of year. In fact, there is an article in the latest issue of STS about the underfished Clearwater A-run. Good Luck,

E-mann,

I can remember the first time I went steelhead fishing from the bank. It was with my father in-law. We were jig fishing with a float and shrimp. I would cast as far out as I could and he was fishing about 10 feet from the bank.

He ended up catching his limit during the first four hours and I didn't get a bite. I decided to change up my strategy and also fished much closer to the bank. That was the magic ticket as I had a fish on in less than 30 minutes.
