It was Thurday morning when we launched the drift boat in the upper Hoh. There was a drizzling rain that continued the rest of the day. I was using my old two raincoat technique which kept me reasonably dry for most of the day.

There was passable water visibility but not great. But it was good enough. We had a real good day, going four out of five on beautiful natives. The most memorable fish of the day was a georgeous chrome 12 pound hen! She put on a spectacular aerial display, clearing the water four times. Another fish, an 8 pound buck showing some color, made a couple of amazing high speed runs, one of which raised a nice blister on my thumb. That guy thought he was a big boy!

We launched at the same spot Friday morning. The river had dropped a little and it was snowing. Snowed and/or rained off and on all day with a couple of 30 minute sun breaks. Water visibility was good. We had another great day, going 4 for 7 on those amazing Hoh River natives!
The most memorable fish of the day was a very bright buck going around 16 to 18 pounds. He hit the plug like a Mack truck and made a solid 100 yard blazing run downstream! A wonderful big fish!

We drift fished very little. All the fish were hooked pulling plugs. The river was high and fast. Most of the fish were hooked in narrow relatively slow moving slots right next to shore.

We were lucky to hit a two day period when it was cold and the uppermost part of the Hoh dropped into shape. It had been out of shape for weeks. Went out of shape again the night we left.

Thanks for the report. One of these days I'll get out to the OP--maybe I'll try in the summer when we'll have a little more daylight and hopefully I'll only need one raincoat.
