The Wallowa River and Grand Ronde River are producing excellent catches of winter steelhead, and will continue to do so all winter. The river can get icy during these months. late February becomes more predictable as weather begins to warm and water flows increase - usually meaning warmer water.

Upcoming fisheries would be the Steelhead Train on the Wallowa. The first trips begin the Friday around Feb. 20. The Grand Ronde is a bit warmer than the Wallowa because it is a bit lower and gets some warm air influence from the Snake River. In

January most trips would be walk and wade, but you can get back in the vehicle to warm up between holes.

This is certainly a year to consider coming out to fish. There are lots of fish and the catching is excellent. Most week's creel survey has had single-digit catch rates - you can't ask for more than that.
