It didn't quite fit into one of the forums, but since I'm always after salmon and steelhead, I figured the question could just as well go here.

I plan to chase some steehead, but fighting the crowds at all the usual spots gets old. Does anybody target them in the Big C this time of year? I realize you would have to be lucky to catch a break from the wind, but given a window of relatively calm water, could guy stand a fair chance of catching 'em en-route? They're already coming over Bonneville at 1000+/day, and will be doing so for the next two months...

Hi, Mark- my usual favorites this time of year are walleyes around Irrigon/Patterson/Boardman or upriver, chinook at Brewster, or steelhead at tributaries downriver. I have actually boated a few steelhead bobbering at McNary this time of year believe it or not, but not reliably.

Unfortunately I can't get out fishing this weekend but if I could pull an overnighter, I'd be either down at Ilwaco on the red hot coho bite at the CR buoy, or up at Brewster chasing sockeye and chinook. For a day trip I'd probably chase walleyes, or stock up on shad if I knew anyone who needed them.

Thanks Don. I talked to another fella that's been killing the walleye down around Boardman; I should give that a shot.

Ilwaco is just too far to drive to get sidelined by the wind. With only a 17' boat and very little experience out there, I probably shouldn't push my luck.

Weekend after this I'll probably make my first trip down to the lower tribs for steelhead. Time to cure some shrimp!

Yup- just cured up 8 lbs of fresh stuff right off the boat at Anacortes! Beautiful shrimp this year.

I can't wait to see some bobbers disappear...

I've will be spending some time in small streams with my fly rod during the next month. I really enjoy fishing for brown or bull trout. Catch and release of course. The upper Touchet is fairly productive this time of year.

Excellent choice there- I'll get my annual flyrod small stream trout fix in a couple of weeks in Montana.

I hvaent been chasing anything this summer except for a little side trip in June to Sitka for kings, which was a blast. I will have to upload some pics eventually. I do plan on heading to the Klickitat in Aug for some summer steel float trips and possibly to Drano for some still fishing bobber action for steelhead. Other than that I dont fish much in the summer!

I spent a weekend in the Mountains of Idaho in the Clearwater area with some friends and caught and released too many trout to count. The best fly-fishing experience I've ever had! Other than that, been catching a few large mouth and hanging worms under bobbers with the kids pulling fat trout out of the creek.

Sounds like good times...

We just got back from a charter trip out of Winchester Bay (mouth of the Umpqua) for ocean coho -- that was a blast. 31 fish landed by the six of us, lost count of the long-distance releases, and even fed a few to the sea lions; all this in about 4 hours of fishing. I would recommend Strike Zone charters if any of you are in the area.

Flyfishing anything I can around Walla Walla.

I just got back from a week at my place in Montana. Dang those little trout are fun on a flyrod but now I'm ready for some big fish again! Sounds like the coho fishing is hot everywhere. I think I'll try some steelheading this weekend but it sure would be fun to get down to the salt.

I think it's a bit early for Port Kelly due to the high water temps (although I've caught them at McNary on the 4th of July before so it's never impossible). I'm going to head down to Drano and try some bobber action if I can get a good spot.
