Does any one have any tips on fishing the Tucannon River or does anyone know when the best time of the season to fish the river is?

Don't know if it's sheer coincidence or perhaps you're the same person who asked this question on another discussion board--either way, let me give the same response:
I've fished the Tucannon quite a bit. There are fish all through the river now but the season on this stream is winding down. It will remain open 'till the end of the season (April 15th), and I've caught decent fish clear into April, but the odds of catching fish in good shape are dropping as the season progresses as these are essentially late arriving summer run fish. None-the-less, fishing can be pretty good at times for the remainder of the season. It's a very long river for it's flow volume, so there are few holes. Therefore the fish get pretty spread out and just tend to trickle through the system throughout the season. The trick is to keep moving until you find fish. There's a road that follows virtually the entire open section of the river--the bridges are great access points and a good place to start. Finally, the fish run on the small size. I've never seen one over 6 lbs, and they've averaged closer to 4 (at least for me). I've heard of an occasional 8-10 lb fish, but those are very rare. Good luck.
I'll also refer you to an earlier related thread:

You can PM me for more specific details if you like, and again--good luck.

I was at the tucannon yesterday for a few hours with a buddy. I ran into the game warden and picked his brain about what is accessible along the tucannon along tucannon river rd. He said that basically everything along the stretch of the road up to the hatchery bridge is fair game. The only land that is not accessible is well posted otherwise it is feel free to fish. There is also another 2mi or so stretch outside of starbuck that can be fished if you register at the land owners place. We did manage to land one fish ~26". The key like Emann said is to find holes which = lots of walking/bush whacking! By the way Emann, my buddy caught his fish on one of the spinners I made him!

Well done. It's satisfying to catch one on your own gear. 26" is actually a decent fish for the Tucannon--All the fish I have kept from the Tucannon have been 25" or less. I've released a few that I think were larger, but not by much, if at all.
