As I was putting the second coat of paint on my doors all I could think about was, "Maybe if I finish early I can get out on the river. 300,000 Sockeye are waiting for me". Sadly I could not get done fast enough. There always seems to be a project.
The Sockeye are a hard fish to figure out. My neighbor tried for a day with no luck. He said if he'd dunked his net in the water he could have filled the boat. He might have tried the "barehook" method the next day because he was awful quiet... Hmm
I'm excited next to fish Chelan (lake trout), Brewster (salmon) and Ruffus woods (trout).
Wish me luck! Any tips are welcome. PM

I am curious to read about Rufus Woods. I know the feeling about the home projects.. So far I have been stuck puting in a concrete patio, underground sprinklers, a back yard... I can't wait for fall!

We've tagged a few sockeyes while fishing for kings (on superbaits) but I've seen a few guys getting more sockeyes on shrimp and spin-glos. I've also heard the bare hook trick is working, but the few attempts I've made didn't produce.
The kings, however, have been very cooperative!

Well, good news, bad news. I had a great week in Chelan but didn't get much fishing done. I never made it to Brewster or Rufus. I was told Rufus was not as good as normal for trout this year. I heard to opposite for Wells and Brewster.
Chelan was great but the wind was churning the lake with 3 foot white caps half the time. We picked up nice trout and you can always play with the bass if you like.
On to the fall at Vernitta. I can't wait.

Any news on the summer steelhead? I was thinking about heading to McNary earlier today, but didn't, and am now kicking myself since there were over 2000 fish over the dam today... I'll probably get out next Friday either to McNary or John Day. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I've done way too much working and not enough fishing this summer! Thanks!
