Hey fishermanmd: McNary has been decent. I have talked to allot of people who have been catching 1-3 average. We went 2 for 3 on saturday. No one is getting skunked! Lots of natives caught. One boat caught 5 nates and no keepers.

Thanks for the encouraging report Admiral. Was this night fishing with blinkies? The last time I was able to go out to McNary in November, there were twice as many boats launching in the evening than there were day fishing. Can't wait to go out. Anyone on the forum been out at Ice Harbor on the Snake?

taking a buddy out this weekend who's never caught a steelhead?so ihave the same question day or night?i would sure like to see him hook into one of those b runs wouldn't that be a great first steelhead?smoking a steelhead right now on the smoker i started a diet this year so im in need of more fish that was the last one out of the freezer.

Frank: Day is just as good this time of year. The water is 39 deg and shrimp/bobber has been working for allot of people. Just troll around very slowly trying to mark fish. Once you find them. Stay on top of them! Good luck on the diet!

I enjoyed a ride with Eric on that Saturday trip at mcnary. As he hinted, it was daytime and Eric had the hot rod with bobber and bare shrimp. Thanks for a fun ride!

I hit Ice Harbor yesterday and we got three steelhead (2 keepers) on jigs with shrimp.

I think steelhead are around just about everywhere right now, just pick the spot that fits your schedule and that you're most familiar with.

just got back from mcnary,fished about 4 hours did not see 1 fish landed,but everyone was bobber and shrimp fishing except me but my luck looked about as good as everyone elses,What bare they fishing for below the dam alot of boats anchored down there?

Everyone on anchor below McNary are fishing for Sturgeon. It opened for retention on the 1st of Jan. Normally closes around the end of March.

Oregon boat launches, just wanted to spread the word Oregon has a 20.00 tag required to launch your boat this year. Its called a Aquatic Invasive Species tag. More info on the Oregon recreational boating website. I stumbled on to it, ticket is 142.00

I read that Washington residents can use Oregon launches on the Columbia without the invasive species permit. But you do need the permit if you go up tributaries other than just launching and running down to the Columbia.

Starfish, thats the way I understood it also, I wasn"t real clear so I called the Oregon fish and game and the lady on the phone said that I did in fact need one. I also went to High Desert Marina to get one ( his machine was broke) but he also said he understood the county was the ones doing the enforcing.

There's a post on another board that included an email from the OSMB explaining the requirements and showing that you don't need it. I'll try to find a copy and post it. It might be worth printing a copy of the email and carrying it in your truck.

What about motorized boats in multi-jurisdictional waters like the Columbia and Snake rivers?

Boats registered in Washington or Idaho do not need an Oregon-issued Aquatic Invasive Species Prevention Permit to operate or launch from Oregon into the Columbia or Snake Rivers, or tributaries within ONE RIVER MILE of the Columbia and Snake Rivers for the purposes of accessing them.
Washington and Idaho boaters need a permit when boating in Oregon's state waters including reservoirs, the Multnomah Channel, the Willamette, Deschutes, John Day and other rivers.
Washington boaters pay a surcharge for aquatic invasive species prevention when they register their boats in Washington.
Idaho has a similar Aquatic Invasive Species Prevention Permit program. Registered boaters from Idaho have a permit affixed to their boats.
