August 29, 2008

Action: Anglers may keep one adult Chinook as part of their salmon daily limit.

Species affected: Chinook salmon

Effective dates by location:

Green River (Cowlitz County) from mouth to 2800 Bridge: Sept. 1 - Sept. 30, 2008.

North Fork Toutle River from the mouth to Kid Valley Bridge near Hwy. 504: Sept. 1 - Nov. 30, 2008.

North Fork Toutle River from Kid Valley Bridge near Hwy 504 upstream to the posted deadline downstream of the collection facility: Sept. 1 - Sept. 30, 2008.

Mainstem Toutle River from mouth to forks: Sept. 1 - Nov. 30, 2008.

Reason for action: Fewer fall Chinook will be released into the Toutle system. Returning Chinook are available for harvest this fall.

Other information: The salmon daily limit is 6 fish of which 4 may be adults, except only one may be an adult Chinook. Any adult Chinook, fin clipped or not, may be retained; however wild Chinook jacks must be released.

Effective October 1 adult Chinook must be released on the North Fork Toutle River from the Kid Valley Bridge near Hwy. 504 upstream, and the Green River.

Wild coho and chum must also be released. Minimum size is 12 inches. Closed waters, night closures, non-buoyant lure and stationary gear restrictions, and opportunities for other salmon species remain the same as listed in the 2008/2009 Fishing in Washington pamphlet.
