Fellow Steelheaders: This is my first season Steelie fishing and by all accounts, it has been very successful. Hooked and landed a total of 12 steelies ranging from 6 to 10#. Many hatchery fish mixed with several large Natives. Released all natives, and about half the hatchery fish.

I understand the Skykomish, and subsequently the Wallace will be closing on the 29th of this month. Where shall I start fishing for steelies after the Sky closes? Haven't fished anywhere else and would like to continue my steelhead quest.

Any information provided will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot.
peace

Great job for your first season of steelheading! There are a lot of folks who didn't catch that many in their first two or three years combined.

Sorry I can't help much on westside rivers... most of the regulars on this site are eastsiders but someone might chime in with some good info. I'm pretty much done with steelhead until summertime, and am ready to look for walleyes for a few weeks until the springers get here.

I did manage to get out for a day at Port Angeles this weekend since I was up in that neighborhood this weekend, and two of us each caught our limit of 1 blackmouth at about 8 lbs each. That's some great looking salmon-- I'm looking forward to some fine eating tomorrow night. Reports up thataway were pretty spotty for steelhead but I seem to recall March being the month to hit it up there for C&R on big nates on the peninsula rivers.
