Well, the wind was a zoo on sunday morning, and there was not alot of action. We saw maybe 20 fish caught, one of which was ours Laughing . We had plenty of opportunities though as we had four other big hits that didnt stick. When I say big hits I mean the ones where the rod is buried in the water! Either they are on or their not. Considering the amount of action the other 60 boats or so saw i would say it was a decent day. I will post a pic in the gallery.

One thing I did not mention was that the guide that we booked our trip with was great. Bob Barthlow of Rivers Northwest is worth anyones time in researching for a guided trip. www.riversnw.com/ is his website. He is also sponsored by Yakima Bait Co. We had great luck on their Fatfish lures. If you are looking for a wealth of knowledge and a great guide I would check it out. I was looking for guides on this site earlier this year, and found his site on steelheader.net. Just thought I would pass this info on for those that were intersted. his rate was $135/day which includes a BBQ steak lunch! Can't beat that!

On April 28 McNary had 1409 chinook pass and the numbes increased to 2138 on May 1st.

Per the 10 year averages and the 2003 and 2004 counts it may get a little better but the peak will come and go quickly. If the WDFW is going to open it up for us eastsiders now is the time but I am not holding my breath Sad

Here is the latest analysis by the experts:

• Preseason forecasts were for 254,100 upriver stock and 116,900 Willamette stock spring Chinook.
• The Bonneville Dam count through May 2nd totals 37,265 adult fish and 236 jacks.
• Based on the recent 5-year average, 65% of the run has passed by May 2nd. Since 1970 the latest timed run occurred in 1996. Passage for the 1996 run was 43% complete by May 2nd and peaked on May 6th.
• The Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) met on May 2nd to examine the status of the upriver spring Chinook run. TAC reduced the run to a to a range between 70,000 and 100,000 upriver spring Chinook returning to the river mouth.

Assuming the run comes in at the mid-point of that range (85K) then the commercials will have over-fished their allowable impact by 40% (0.84% vs the planned 0.6%).

Sad to say, but we will have overfished our "below Bonne" sport impact by about 25% (1.0% vs the planned 0.8%) as well.

It would seem to me that just 'cause it was overfished below Bonneville, they could still open it up above--maybe between John Day and McNary? The impact up here would be so darned minimal. But then, those Seattle people think the world ends at the Columbia Gorge and the Cascade Mountains, so it wouldn't even cross their minds.
